Today is National Press Freedom Day, but do you know what the press is? Do you know where it came from? Continue with the article to find out more!

What is press?
Press is the collective form of a means of communication, that is, the press aims to disseminate information, news, and opinions through radio, TV, magazines, and the internet.
The printing press came from the German Johannes Gutemberg around 1440, and at the time had the objective of improving the production of books and other printed materials in quantity. Its creation had a great impact on society, facilitating the opening of ideas and the expansion.
How important is this date?📍
This date is of great importance as it is necessary to reinforce freedom of the press in the country, as without it there is a great chance of an uninformed society, without the right to democracy, and with great discrimination against FAKE NEWS.
But the reason for choosing June 7th for the celebration is that this was the date on which a manifest against the military dictatorship was sampled and then signed by around three thousand journalists in 1977.
Challenges still faced
- Fake news and misinformation
- Speed of information
- Number of online channels
It is important to remember that our country, during the period of the republic, was marked by many attacks on freedom of the press and that during the military regime there was already the institution of a law called the press law that had established and restricted freedom of expression.
With the end of this period and the arrival of the 1988 Federal Constitution, the rights to information were established.
