The US sent military ships near the coast of Venezuela with the justification that it was an operation to combat drug trafficking, but the Venezuelan government did not believe it.

When did it start?

From August 16, the American press began to report on military operations on the Caribbean coast (extremely close to Venezuela).

The Trump government decided not to give details about the investigation, but claimed that it was nothing more than an objective operation to combat drug trafficking from Latin America, however, the Venezuelan government did not believe in the US president's allegations and reacted by mobilizing the Bolivarian Militia.

Why didn't people believe in Trump's justification?

The Trump administration had already stated that it considered the Venezuelan president a fugitive from justice, and offered an amount of $50,000,000 to anyone who had information about Maduro's whereabouts.

And also, he stated that he would capture Maduro under the pretext that the President is the leader of the alleged Cartel de los Soles, classified by the US as a terrorist organization.

Letter from Venezuela to the UN

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro sent a letter addressed to UN Secretary-General Antônio Guterres.

The letter requested that the UN demand that the United States cancel the naval expedition towards the Venezuelan Coast and states that Trump's offense was a very serious fault.

An excerpt from the letter:

Very serious."

"Humanity and this organization cannot allow, in the 21st century, to resurface policies of force that endanger international peace and security," says the document. "Thus, I request that you (...) urge the United States government to put an end to these hostile actions and respect the sovereignty, territorial integrity and police independence of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela."

In any case, nothing has been confirmed, but the tensions between the countries only increase and if, by chance, a war broke out seriously harmful to the entire Latin American Region, it could even hit Brazil.
